Wednesday Delights

Welcome Back! Reflecting on Rest, Recipes, and Real Life Moments

Happy Wednesday, dear readers! It feels incredibly good to be back here, connecting with all of you. You might be wondering, “Wait, where did you go? I saw your recipes!” And you’d be right – the delicious recipes kept coming (and I’ll recap them below), but I personally took a much-needed, solid 2.5-week break from the daily grind of work. And let me tell you, it was absolutely essential for recharging my batteries.

A significant portion of that time included a blissful weekend vacation to Mexico with my husband, just the two of us, without the kids. It was a rare opportunity to reconnect, relax, and simply enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful setting. The quiet moments, the uninterrupted conversations, and the change of scenery were exactly what we needed to feel refreshed and ready to tackle life’s adventures once more.

Embracing Privacy in a Hyper-Connected World: Our Unplugged Getaway

What’s truly fascinating about our little escape is that almost nobody knew we were even away. And honestly? I cherish that fact! The only way anyone would know about our Mexican adventure is if they are dedicated, regular readers of Salt & Baker – yes, that means you, right now!

In today’s digital age, it often feels like the norm is to meticulously document and share every travel adventure on social media. From the moment you board the plane to every meal, every scenic view, and every leisurely stroll on the beach, the pressure to post seems omnipresent. Yet, I find myself consistently resisting this trend. I’m not entirely sure why; there’s just something profoundly satisfying about maintaining a sense of privacy on my social media accounts. Perhaps I’m simply a bit old-school in my approach, valuing the personal experience over the public presentation.

It brings me immense joy to experience these special moments purely for myself and my loved ones, rather than through the lens of what might garner the most likes or comments. This doesn’t mean I don’t love sharing aspects of my life and passions, especially through this blog and its culinary creations. But for certain personal milestones and experiences, particularly vacations meant for genuine relaxation and reconnection, the quiet enjoyment feels far more authentic and restorative. Am I completely crazy for feeling this way in an era dominated by constant sharing? I’d love to hear your thoughts on privacy versus public sharing in the comments below.

While we were away, our sons were having an absolute blast, being thoroughly spoiled by their wonderful grandma for several days. It’s always a bittersweet experience leaving them, but knowing they’re in such loving and capable hands makes it so much easier. In fact, our son Bronson was quite candid when we returned, telling me he wasn’t happy we came home because it meant grandma had to leave. A testament to how much fun they had, I suppose!

Engaging the Community: St. Patrick’s Day Traditions and Shopping Insights

Beyond our recent family adventures, I’m always eager to hear about your traditions and observations. Let’s dive into a couple of topics:

  1. St. Patrick’s Day Culinary Creations: Beyond Corned Beef

Do you get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day with fun, festive foods? Personally, I’ve never really been a fan of the traditional corned beef and cabbage fare. To be honest, I’m not even sure I’ve ever truly given it a fair try! However, growing up, our family had its own unique way of celebrating the holiday. We’d always prepare a “green dinner” – think vibrant green French toast, wholesome green beans, jiggly green Jell-O, and refreshing green juice. It was a simple, yet memorable, way for us to acknowledge the day.

I’m genuinely curious: what special dishes do you prepare for St. Patrick’s Day? It doesn’t have to be a full feast; it could be something you make in the days leading up to the holiday, or even a whimsical treat. Perhaps you get creative with rainbow jell-o, bake charming green cupcakes, or craft festive rainbow Rice Krispies treats. Share your festive food traditions and favorite St. Patrick’s Day recipes in the comments section below! I’m always looking for new inspiration to make our celebrations even more vibrant.

  2. Unusual Shopping Trends: What’s Happening at Costco?

On a completely different note, have you noticed any particular items selling out rapidly at your local Costco in the past week or so? The Costco stores here in Houston have been experiencing some unusual stocking trends. It seems people are stocking up on certain goods with an almost frantic energy! This phenomenon always makes me ponder the underlying reasons – is it related to current events, seasonal demands, or perhaps just a collective impulse? It’s fascinating to observe consumer behavior, especially in large warehouse stores like Costco where buying in bulk is the norm. What items have you noticed disappearing from the shelves, and what do you think might be driving these purchasing patterns? Your insights could shed light on broader consumer trends!

The homemade aspect ensures freshness, and the tartar sauce adds a kick that even picky eaters might enjoy!
