Easter Reflections: A First-Time Ham Baker’s Journey
Did you have a wonderful Easter weekend? Ours was truly memorable, filled with the vibrant chaos and sweet traditions that make the holiday so special. We spent quality time together, diving into the artistic endeavor of dyeing Easter eggs in a kaleidoscope of colors – a process that always sparks so much joy and a little bit of mess! Following our creative session, the annual Easter egg hunt brought boundless excitement as my son scurried around, discovering hidden treasures and, of course, a delightful haul of candy. It’s always a heartwarming sight to witness that pure, unadulterated happiness that comes with finding a well-hidden chocolate bunny.
This year, however, marked a significant culinary milestone for me: I baked a ham for the very first time in my life! I approached the task with a mix of apprehension and excitement, carefully following a recipe I found. The outcome? The taste and flavor were absolutely amazing – truly a triumph in terms of deliciousness. The sweet and savory glaze, the tender, succulent meat – it was everything I hoped for and more, earning rave reviews from the family. However, I must confess, the process itself was rather lengthy and involved several steps that felt a tad unnecessary for a home cook. While the result was undeniably fantastic, I’m already contemplating how to simplify that recipe for future holiday feasts. My goal is to streamline it without compromising on that incredible flavor, perhaps even sharing a revised, easier version with all of you down the line as an essential Easter or holiday ham recipe!

Current Obsession: “All American” and Its Golden Nuggets of Wisdom
When it comes to unwinding after a long day, nothing beats getting lost in a compelling television series. Lately, my evenings have been delightfully consumed by the Netflix series All American, and I am absolutely hooked! This show masterfully blends themes of ambition, family dynamics, societal pressures, and the pursuit of dreams, all set against a backdrop of high school football. The storytelling is engaging, the plotlines are captivating, and the characters are incredibly well-developed, making it easy to become emotionally invested in their journeys. It’s a show that offers both dramatic tension and heartwarming moments.
While the entire cast delivers stellar performances, I think my favorite character (thus far, as I’m still making my way through the seasons) is unequivocally the mom. Her character is a powerhouse, consistently dishing out “golden nuggets of wisdom” left and right! Her advice is not just cliché platitudes; it’s deeply insightful, practical, and often delivered with a perfect blend of firmness and unwavering love. She’s the kind of character who makes you pause and reflect on your own life choices and parenting strategies, offering profound lessons on resilience, integrity, and supporting your children through thick and thin. Her strength, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to her family and community are truly inspiring.
What are you watching right now that has you captivated? Is there a particular character or show that has offered unexpected life lessons or simply provided a much-needed escape from reality? Quarantine Life: Strategies for Staying Sane and Taming Chores
Life in quarantine continues to present its unique set of challenges, and finding ways to maintain a sense of normalcy and sanity has become a daily mission. We’ve adopted a few strategies that have been genuinely helpful in keeping spirits up and minds engaged. Regular walks have become a cornerstone of our routine – it’s incredible what a dose of fresh air, sunshine, and a change of scenery can do for everyone’s mood and overall well-being. We explore local parks, discover new paths in our neighborhood, and simply enjoy the quiet moments outdoors, observing nature and getting some much-needed physical activity.
Beyond outdoor adventures, we’ve leaned heavily into arts and crafts. From painting and drawing to elaborate construction projects with various craft supplies, these activities provide a fantastic creative outlet, stimulate imagination, and offer a wonderful way to pass the time constructively. Reading books has also been a constant source of comfort and learning, both individually and as a family. We’ve been exploring various genres, from adventure stories to educational non-fiction, and revisiting beloved classics, transporting ourselves to different worlds from the comfort of our home library.
However, one area that remains a perennial challenge is getting my son to embrace chores. While he’s generally a helpful child, the enthusiasm for daily tasks often wanes, leading to gentle (and sometimes not-so-gentle) persuasion tactics. We’re trying to instill a sense of responsibility and understanding that everyone contributes to the household, but finding that sweet spot where chores feel less like a burden and more like a natural part of daily life is tricky. We’ve tried reward charts, praise, and even making it a game, but consistency is key and often elusive. Any advice, tips, or proven strategies on getting kids to like chores – or at least accept them with less resistance – would be incredibly appreciated! 🙏🏼 We’re open to all suggestions from our wonderful community, hoping to discover that magic formula for chore cooperation.

The “Mom Store”: Making Reading an Adventure for My 5-Year-Old
This next endeavor perhaps deserves a moment of solemn contemplation, or perhaps a round of applause – I’m currently teaching my 5-year-old how to read! It’s a journey filled with both immense pride and moments that test the patience of a saint. Witnessing the lightbulb moments when letters click into words, and words into sentences, is truly magical and incredibly rewarding, but it’s also a marathon, not a sprint, requiring dedication and consistent effort from both of us.

To aid in this significant endeavor and make the learning process as positive and engaging as possible, I’ve adopted a brilliant strategy I learned from Ralphie at Simply on Purpose. It’s called the “Mom Store,” and I have to say, so far, it’s working wonders! The concept is simple yet highly effective: my son earns “Mom Money” for practicing reading, mastering new sight words, or showing sustained effort and focus during our reading sessions. He can then use this earned currency to “purchase” small, desired items from the “Mom Store,” which is essentially a curated collection of little toys, craft supplies, treats, or privileges (like extra screen time or a special outing). This system transforms reading practice from a potential chore into a goal-oriented game, fostering intrinsic motivation and excitement.
The beauty of the Mom Store lies in its ability to empower him, giving him agency over his rewards and making the connection between effort and outcome tangible. He gets to choose what he works towards, and the anticipation of a “shopping trip” keeps him eager to learn and improve. It encourages a growth mindset and makes the learning process a fun, collaborative experience. My biggest hope is that through this positive reinforcement and playful approach, reading becomes something my son genuinely loves and embraces, rather than something he feels forced to do. It’s all about building a foundation for a lifelong love of books and learning, one “Mom Store” purchase and one new word mastered at a time! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

TikTok: Love It, Hate It, or Just Curious?
In the ever-evolving landscape of social media, one platform has undeniably captured the world’s attention: TikTok. It seems to be everywhere, with its short-form videos and viral trends dominating online conversations, from dance challenges to quick recipe tutorials. Have you ventured into the fascinating world of TikTok? What’s your take on this increasingly popular platform? Do you like it, love it, or perhaps find yourself leaning towards the “hate it” camp?
I’ve heard so many conflicting opinions – some hail it as a creative outlet, a source of endless entertainment, and a platform for discovering new talent and unique content across various niches. They point to its ability to connect people globally and inspire incredible creativity. Others, however, warn of its highly addictive nature, describing it as a massive “time suck” that can effortlessly consume hours without you even realizing it, pulling you into an endless scroll. The algorithms are notoriously good at serving up exactly what you want to see, making it incredibly hard to put down once you start! I’m genuinely curious to know your thoughts and experiences with TikTok. Whether you’re a seasoned user, a curious observer, or someone who avoids it entirely, I’d love to hear your perspective in the comments below! Share your insights on its pros, cons, and overall impact on your digital life.
