  2. Use a potato masher to mash the raspberries. A few berry chunks are desired for texture. Measure out 3 cups of the mashed berries and transfer them to a separate large bowl. Any remaining mashed berries can be stored for other uses.

  3. Pour the granulated sugar over the 3 cups of mashed berries and stir to combine. Let this mixture sit for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Carefully pour the hot jam into clean, freezer-safe jars, leaving ½ inch of headspace at the top for expansion during freezing. Secure the lids and let the jars sit at room temperature for 24 hours to allow the jam to set. After 24 hours, transfer to the freezer for long-term storage (up to 1 year) or store in the fridge (up to 3 weeks).

Notes

  1. If you’re in a rush, you can use semi-frozen raspberries, but ensure they are thawed enough to mash easily with a potato masher. This recipe works equally well with fresh berries.

For seedless jam: After mashing the fruit and before adding sugar, strain the raspberries through cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer to remove seeds. Be aware that this will result in a smooth, non-chunky texture and may slightly affect the final thickness of the jam. For easier straining, ensure frozen berries are completely thawed.
