Midweek Sweetness

Happy Wednesday, dear readers!

What a wonderfully vibrant and activity-filled weekend we just experienced! Saturdays often bring a delightful chaos to our household, and this past one was no exception. My eldest, Bronson, was deeply engrossed in his soccer game, showcasing his budding athletic spirit on the field. Meanwhile, my husband, Alex, was diligently on call at the hospital, leaving me with the joyful challenge of supervising our littlest adventurer, Will. At a lively 15 months old, Will has an unstoppable desire to be right in the middle of all the action, especially on the soccer field! My primary mission throughout the entire game was a constant, vigilant effort to prevent him from sprinting onto the pitch, a task that proved both exhausting and endearing. His little legs, full of energy and a yearning to “be big,” are still so tiny, yet capable of surprising bursts of speed. It’s a true testament to the energy of toddlerhood!

As the sun set on Saturday, our evening took an exciting turn as we headed out for our very first trunk-or-treat event in the neighborhood. This was a completely new experience for our family, and I must confess, I absolutely adored every moment of it! The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, as countless cars lined up, their trunks creatively decorated and brimming with an incredible assortment of candy. It was a safe and festive way for the kids to trick-or-treat, moving from one imaginative display to the next. Beyond the sweet treats, there was even a dedicated section filled with engaging games, providing even more entertainment for the children. Bronson, true to his current obsession, proudly donned his Spider-Boy costume, ready to web-sling his way through the festivities. Little Will, full of might and tiny muscles, transformed into an adorable Incredible, complete with his superhero suit. Watching their faces light up with joy and wonder as they collected their treasures was truly magical and created some cherished family memories.

And now for a topic that always sparks debate in our household: Christmas music! The eternal question is, when is it truly acceptable to begin listening to those festive tunes? For me, the answer came a little earlier this year – I simply couldn’t hold off any longer! However, Bronson has appointed himself the official “Christmas music police.” He becomes quite adamant if he hears carols playing before what he deems the appropriate time, often exclaiming, “Mom, it’s only October! Turn this music OFF!” So, to maintain peace and harmony (and still get my dose of holiday cheer), I’ve found a clever workaround: I usually sneak in my favorite Christmas playlists while he’s happily occupied at school. It’s a small rebellion, but it brings me so much joy and helps usher in the festive spirit just a little bit early. What are your rules for holiday music? I’m curious to hear!

This past weekend wasn’t just about family adventures; it also brought some delightful kitchen moments, particularly on my Instagram stories. Saturday morning was dedicated to one of my all-time favorite comfort foods: my Sweet & Spicy Chili recipe. If you caught my stories, you’d know why this recipe holds such a special place in my heart – and in our family’s meal rotation! It masterfully balances the warmth of classic chili with a subtle sweetness and just the right hint of spice, creating a flavor profile that is truly irresistible and surprisingly complex. It’s the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out, perfect for those crisp autumn evenings.

The feedback for the chili was absolutely heartwarming! Karen, a wonderful member of our community, left the sweetest comment on Sunday night that perfectly captured the essence of this dish. She wrote, “I have this cooking in the crockpot now. Just gave it a stir and taste and OMG it’s delicious. I literally said OMG which in return lead to everyone in my family to come over and do a taste test of their own and it’s anonymous OMG HOLY YUM!!!” Her enthusiastic review truly made my day, highlighting exactly what I love about sharing recipes – the joy it brings to other kitchens and families. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that a recipe can create such a wonderful, shared experience.

Continuing my rare “Instagram mood” (because, let’s be honest, getting me deeply involved in social media isn’t an everyday occurrence 😬), Sunday afternoon saw me back in front of the camera, demonstrating another beloved treat: my brown butter chocolate chip cookies. These aren’t just any chocolate chip cookies; the magic of brown butter transforms them, adding a depth of nutty, caramelized flavor that elevates them to an entirely new level of deliciousness. The process of browning butter itself is a simple technique that yields incredible results, creating cookies that are chewy in the center, slightly crispy at the edges, and utterly addictive. It was a joy to share the steps and secrets behind these fan favorites.

Now, I’m turning to you for inspiration! I love hearing from you and understanding what kinds of recipes you’d like to see next in an Instagram demonstration. Whether it’s a weeknight dinner, a decadent dessert, or a healthy breakfast option, your opinions matter. If you have a particular dish in mind or a specific cooking technique you’re curious about, please don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below! Your suggestions truly help shape the content I create.
