Welcome Back to A Sweeter Wednesday: Updates & Inspiration from Salt & Baker

Happy Wednesday, dear readers! It feels like ages since we last connected here on A Sweeter Wednesday, and I’ve truly missed sharing these moments with you. Life has been a delightful whirlwind of changes, both online and offline, and I’m thrilled to finally catch you up on everything that’s been brewing. I hope you’ve all been doing wonderfully!

Elevating Your Experience: The Salt & Baker Website Refresh

You might have noticed that Salt & Baker has undergone a significant “face-lift” recently, and I couldn’t be more excited to share the details! Our primary goal with this redesign was to enhance your experience, making it more intuitive, visually appealing, and ultimately, a joy to navigate. Whether you’re a long-time follower or a new visitor, we wanted to ensure that finding your next favorite recipe is as seamless as possible.

For those viewing on a desktop, the transformation of our homepage is immediately apparent. It’s now cleaner, more organized, and designed to highlight our freshest content, allowing you to easily discover popular recipes and new inspirations at a glance. We’ve focused on creating a modern aesthetic that still feels warm and inviting, truly reflecting the heart of Salt & Baker.

Beyond the visual appeal, the mobile version of the site has received a comprehensive overhaul, making it significantly more user-friendly. In today’s fast-paced world, we know many of you access our recipes on the go, often directly from your kitchen while cooking. The improved mobile experience ensures smooth scrolling, easy-to-read text, and quick access to all features, no matter the size of your screen. This means less pinch-to-zoom and more effortless browsing as you whip up your next culinary masterpiece.

One of my favorite, albeit perhaps a quirky, aspect of the new site is the footer. It’s designed to be simple and clean, yet highly functional, providing essential information without clutter. This understated elegance helps maintain the overall polished look of the site.

Another fantastic feature we’ve implemented is the sticky header. Whether you’re on your desktop or phone, as you scroll down the page, the main menu will remain present at the top of your screen. This small but mighty detail ensures that navigation is always within reach. Need to search for a specific ingredient, browse categories, or access your account? No problem – your options are always just a click away, enhancing accessibility and reducing the need to scroll back up.

Furthermore, under our dedicated “Follow” tab, you’ll find quick and easy access to all of Salt & Baker’s social media channels. We’ve consolidated everything in one place, making it effortless to connect with us on your preferred platforms. I’m especially thrilled to have added a direct link to the Salt & Baker Facebook group. This intimate community space is truly a special place where you can ask questions, share pictures of your culinary creations, and interact directly with me and fellow food enthusiasts. It’s a supportive environment designed for connection, sharing, and all things delicious.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to explore the refreshed Salt & Baker website and discover all the newest updates, I sincerely encourage you to take a moment to do so. We’ve poured a lot of love into making it the best possible resource for you, and your feedback is always invaluable!

A Glimpse into Our Lives: Family Adventures & New Routines

Life off-screen has been just as eventful, filled with family moments, new challenges, and simple joys. Here’s a peek into what’s been happening in our world:

  • A Refreshing Escape to Idaho: A few weeks ago, our family embarked on a much-needed trip to Idaho to visit extended family. It was a truly restorative experience, a chance to reconnect and lift our spirits. Traveling during these times was certainly unique; the airports were surprisingly quiet, and the planes were perhaps only a third full, if that. Despite the unusual circumstances, the joy of spending quality time with loved ones was exactly what we needed, creating precious memories that we’ll cherish.

  • William’s Canine Companions: Our youngest, William, has developed an absolute obsession with dogs! Both my parents and Alex’s parents have beloved canine companions, and during our Idaho visit, William was practically inseparable from them, showering them with non-stop hugs. It was quite a challenge keeping an eye on him; I caught him multiple times leaning over, attempting to drink from the dogs’ water bowls! Since we don’t personally own pets, visiting his grandparents’ houses is truly doggy heaven for our boys, and William makes the most of every furry encounter.

  • Navigating the New Academic Year: Our Homeschooling Journey: Our school district here in Texas recently announced that the first six weeks of school would be conducted entirely online. I’ll admit, my initial reaction was a mix of overwhelm and disappointment. I truly wanted Bronson to experience the traditional school environment, to make new friends and engage in classroom activities. However, after taking a step back and reflecting, I’ve come to embrace this unexpected turn. It presents a unique opportunity for us to engage in home-based learning, which I believe will be incredibly rewarding.

Our tentative plan is to follow along with his assigned class curriculum but also supplement it significantly with “The Good and the Beautiful” program. I’ve heard an abundance of positive feedback about this curriculum, particularly its comprehensive, faith-based, and wholesome approach to education. I’m genuinely excited to dive into it and discover how we can create a rich and engaging learning environment right here at home. This shift, while initially daunting, has now become a source of optimism and a chance to tailor Bronson’s education in a truly personalized way.

On that note, if you also have school-aged children and are navigating similar schooling decisions – whether it’s online learning, homeschooling, or hybrid models – I would absolutely love to hear from you. What are your plans? What resources have you found helpful? Sharing our experiences and insights can be incredibly beneficial during these evolving times!

  • Comfort & Entertainment: Sometimes, a little escapism is just what the doctor ordered. I fully admit to having watched “A Walk to Remember” three times recently – yes, it’s on Netflix! There’s something wonderfully comforting about revisiting a classic, isn’t there?

In the evenings, my husband and I have discovered a new (or rather, rediscovered an old) joy: playing Chinese Checkers. It’s such a simple yet engaging game, offering a delightful way to unwind and connect without screens.

  • And to visually share a bit more from our wonderful time in Idaho, here are a couple of snapshots:

Discovering Joy: Our Top Picks & Inspirations

Beyond the kitchen, I love sharing practical finds and little delights that bring extra joy or make life a bit easier. Here are some of my recent favorite discoveries and recommendations:

  • I’m genuinely struggling to come up with reasons not to buy this incredible fort-building kit. It promises to make creating epic indoor forts an absolute breeze – pun absolutely intended! Imagine the hours of imaginative play and creativity this could spark for kids (and adults!). It’s a fantastic investment for encouraging screen-free fun.

  • We recently invested in some kinetic sand along with a set of mini sand toys, and I cannot recommend it enough – seriously, get it! My children are utterly captivated by it and can play for hours on end. While you can easily purchase it on Amazon here, I actually found it to be most affordable at Target (link here). I simply place the sand in these handy trays, and the kids are happily occupied at the kitchen table for extended periods. And who am I kidding? I often find myself playing with the kinetic sand too; it’s incredibly therapeutic and fun for all ages!

  • Looking for the perfect ending to a relaxed weekend meal? This blueberry pie from Brown Eyed Baker looks like it would be an absolutely perfect Sunday dessert – classic, comforting, and utterly delicious.

  • For the ultimate picnic food, or even a delightful light lunch, I’m absolutely captivated by the idea of tomato toast with blue cheese mayo from How Sweet Eats. The combination of fresh tomatoes and tangy blue cheese sounds like a flavor explosion. Yum!

  • If your home is feeling a bit cluttered and you’re seeking some organizational zen, this Marie Kondo tidying challenge offers a structured approach to decluttering and bringing a sense of calm and order to your living space. A little organization can spark a lot of joy!

  • Sometimes, a little comfort food is just what you need to turn a challenging day around. After a particularly rough morning yesterday, I decided to bake a batch of our best-ever German chocolate cupcakes. And just like magic, our day took a definite turn for the better. It’s amazing what a little chocolate and coconut can do for the soul! ❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through all these updates. I truly appreciate your continued support and readership. Wishing you all a wonderful and sweet week ahead!
